Today's Verses: 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 (NIV) - 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Paul describes the attributes of love and writes that there is nothing without love.
Today's Comments: I think that it is important to remember that both the Old and New Testaments base their understanding of God's Commandments on the simple concepts of loving God and neighbor. Deuteronomy 6 exhorts: "4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. [a] 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." Leviticus 19:18 instructs: 18 " 'Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD." In Luke 10:27, Jesus puts these two instructions together and summarizes God's commandments in one simple sentence: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'[a]; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[b]" It is obvious that, without love, there is no true obedience to God, nor can one properly worship God. Love is where faith and wisdom begin. It is what Jesus modeled when He came to live among mankind.
