I would suggest that this verse, directed at a somewhat timid Timothy, Paul's new protege, also urges us to boldness in our proclamation of the Word and our expression of faith.

Today's Comments: We are urged to keep God's gift of our ministry alive. We are urged to be strong. Self-discipline and love allow us to use God's gifts in the way that He meant us to use them, giving us strength in both mind and heart to do His will. We are to approach our ministry with an attitude that we have been commissioned by God to proclaim the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ.
