Today's Verse: Ephesians 6:13-17 (ESV)
13 Therefore ptake up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in qthe evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, rhaving fastened on the belt of truth, and shaving put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, tas shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up uthe shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all vthe flaming darts of wthe evil one; 17 and take sthe helmet of salvation, and xthe sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,

s [See ver. 14 above]
x Heb. 4:12; [Isa. 49:2; Hos. 6:5; 2 Cor. 6:7]
In these verses, Paul talks about spiritual warfare against Satan and his forces of evil. In this chapter, Paul, according to The Teacher's Commentary, suggests that Satan's struggle with God is an active one and involves Satan's wreaking of havoc on humanity. God has equipped Christians with tools to fight Satan's attack. And Paul, to provide for increase understanding, sets up an analogy between those tools and the equipment that the Roman soldiers of his day used to defend themselves in battle.
Today's Comments: There is no question in my mind that Satan's activities are real. We may not be called to cast out demons, and we may not have to deal with supernatural phenomena. But, then again, we might. That means that we have to keep our guard up. It means reading and understanding God's Word as it is revealed to us in the Bible. And, it also may mean that we could be persecuted, even by friends, or ostracized by those who we consider to be important. It means carrying on as Jesus instructed us, by loving the Lord, our God, and by loving our neighbors. And yes, we have an awesome responsibility; but let us remember what the passage above tells us--- God issues to us the ultimate armor and gives us weapons against which no foe can stand.

Hymn of the Day:
SOLDIERS OF CHRIST, ARISE
Charles Wesley, 1707–1788
The hymn has often been referred to as “the Christian’s bugle blast” for its strong call to arms.

Soldiers of Christ, arise
and put your armor on,
strong in the strength which God supplies
thru His eternal Son;
strong in the Lord of hosts
and in His mighty pow’r:
Who in the strength of Jesus trusts
is more than conqueror.
Stand then in His great might,
with all His strength endued,
and take, to arm you for the fight,
the panoply of God;
that having all things done,
and all your conflicts past,
ye may o’ercome thru Christ alone
and stand entire at last.
Leave no unguarded place,
no weakness of the soul;
take ev’ry virtue, ev’ry grace,
and fortify the whole.
From strength to strength go on;
Wrestle and fight and pray;
tread all the pow’rs of darkness down
and win the well-fought day.
