A trademark of Mark's Gospel is the great number of healings that he records. According to The Teacher's Commentary, Mark strives to prove that Jesus is the Messiah by showing that He is authenticated by God, by power, by compassion, and by personal authority. He does this by citing witnessed events, of which the healing above is one.

Today's Comments: The Bible Exposition Commentary points out that it didn't matter who came to Jesus for help. His compassion extended to all who would believe that He had the power of God. Jairus was an important person in the Synagogue. And yet, the woman who touched Jesus' garments, as Jesus was heading to the house of Jairus, having lost everything because of her disease, was also cured. Not everybody had the same degree of faith, but Jesus responded to whatever faith that each of them had. And, Jesus used the faith of each of those to encourage others, just as he does today. Those who we recognize for having great faith can encourage our own faith and can help us mature as Christians. Then, as the Holy Spirit grows in us, and as we grow in recognition by others, we are then called to mentor, encourage, and strengthen those to who we minister.
